Are you one of those people who has a ton of craft ideas pinned on Pinterest, but never have the time or supplies to make them? The Office of Student Activities (OSA) is hosting a Pinterest craft night at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, in the KAV. If you’re one of those people who don’t know what Pinterest is—it’s a visual social media platform that allows users to create boards based on a theme, and then add pins—links to web pages—involving that theme. For example, Elizabethtown College’s Pinterest account has a board for incoming students; pins included dorm decorating ideas and study tips.

“I am a Pinterest addict, so there is all these crafts on my Pinterest board, except I would never do them unless I was given the materials,” said senior and SWEET programmer Amanda McCaffrey.

Participating students will be given supplies to make four popular Pinterest crafts. The selected ideas were chosen during OSA program proposals based off what members really enjoy and what they felt students would like.

“I just picked the top crafts that I see people constantly repinning,” said McCaffrey.

The four crafts for this “Pinteresting” night are fall luminaries, a letter-writing station, soda bottle flowers and crayon art. Fall luminaries involves decorating mason jars with leaves, ghosts and other fall items. Also supplied will be flameless tea lights, so students can use the soft lighting in their dorm without being a fire hazard.

Everyone needs a de-stressor, and crafting is awesome for that.”

The letter-writing station uses scrapbook paper and envelopes. Since it is still the beginning of the year, students can write letters home about how they are doing at school. Soda bottle flowers uses soda bottle bottoms to create flowers and pictures with paint on a piece of paper. With the crayon art craft, students will use crayons to make a design and then use a hair dryer to make a dripping effect on paper.

Depending on the success of the craft night, OSA will hold another Pinterest night in the near future.

“Everyone needs a de-stressor, and crafting is awesome for that,” said senior Cassie Meade. “It’s about that time before studying for midterm begins, so this should be great for students.”

Going along with the theme, catering services is supplying snacks inspired by a Pinterest-found recipe for brownie batter dip.

All students are welcome to attend the event.  To learn more about the crafts, here are links to examples of each:
