A group of Elizabethtown College alumni recently dedicated their time to several on- and off-campus service projects, demonstrating their sustained commitment to fulfilling the College’s Educate for Service motto.
“One of the most rewarding parts of these initiatives was seeing alumni return not just to reminisce, but to roll up their sleeves and give back,” Elizabethtown College Director of Alumni Engagement Rebekah Harringer said. “Whether serving the community or helping care for spaces that shaped their college experience, they demonstrated that the spirit of Educate for Service doesn’t end at graduation.”
Members of Etown’s Theatre and Performing Arts Alumni Network, Encore, returned to campus on July 11 to spend the day assisting Etown’s Tempest Theatre staff in preparations for the upcoming fall semester.
The group of volunteers completed renovations and enhancements on the space that has served as a meaningful creative outlet for generations of students, including repairing props and organizing wardrobe and supply closets. The day concluded with a group dinner at the Twisted Bine, in nearby Mount Joy, Pa. Their efforts will support the theatre’s preparations for their upcoming fall mainstage production, “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.”
The inaugural Service in the Summer event on July 25 served as an opportunity for alumni to reconnect and engage with the College while giving back to the local community by assisting in a service project at Blessings of Hope, a nonprofit organization based in Ephrata, Pa.
Along with staff from Etown’s Office of Alumni Relations, the group prepared frozen mangos, which will be distributed among individuals in surrounding communities facing food insecurity.
