“This competition helps ignite the passion for mathematics in a setting outside of the classroom, with like-minded peers,” Elizabethtown College Math Club President, Acacia Kreider said. “Participants don’t just solve problems and equations, they get a firsthand look at the vibrant, collaborative future that a passion for mathematics can build.”

The day began with the competition portion of the event, in which individual students and teams worked to solve comprehensive math challenges. Awards were presented to the highest-scoring school and individuals, including scholarships to Etown for the top individual scorers.

For the third consecutive year, Hershey High School won the team award. Annville-Cleona High School and Carlisle High School followed in a tie for second place, and Chambersburg Area High School placed third. In the individual awards, two students from Hershey High School received first and second place. A student from Hershey High School and a Palmyra Area High School student tied for third place.

Students also took part in engaging activity rotations facilitated by Etown faculty members and current students. Groups took turns rotating through each station, completing mathematical experiments with assistance from members of the student-led Chemistry Club. The activity rotation also allotted time for high school students to engage in conversation with current Etown students, granting an opportunity to learn more about the College and its offerings.
