Elizabethtown College Engineering students Gwenyth Lottero ’27 and Alex McClain ’26 were recently accepted as scholars within the Pennsylvania Water Environment Association (PWEA) InFlow Workforce Development Program in recognition of their impressive academic merit and commitment to making a difference in the water industry.

The program, in its inaugural year, aims to provide passionate emerging water industry professionals with unique, hands-on learning experience as well as opportunities to expand their professional network.

“This opportunity will allow me to learn, grow, and connect as an emerging professional in the water industry,” Lottero said. “I’m fortunate to attend Elizabethtown College, where students are actively encouraged to pursue unique, interest-driven opportunities.”

“I sincerely appreciate being welcomed into a cohort committed to shaping the next generation of the water workforce,” McClain said. “I’m excited for the opportunity to gain hands-on insight into the water and wastewater industry, learn from dedicated professionals and mentors, and engage with real-world challenges that protect public health and the environment.”

Lottero and McClain, who are both majoring in Engineering with a concentration in Environmental Engineering, learned about the program from Professor of Engineering Dr. Brenda Read-Daily,  who spotlighted the opportunity in her Water and Wastewater Engineering course. Read-Daily encouraged students to apply, hoping to enhance their skillset beyond the classroom setting.

“Project InFlow complements my Water and Wastewater Engineering course well because it provides additional opportunities for students to connect theory to practice and receive mentorship from water professionals,” Read-Daily said. “I am passionate about my field and am happy to promote opportunities that help students build their networks and learn more about the water sector.”

Selected participants in the program will receive full funding to attend PWEA’s annual technical conference, PenTec 2026, held from June 15 to 18 in Hershey, Pa. Participants are paired with an experienced water industry professional who will serve as their mentor for the duration of the conference.
