As we celebrate Elizabethtown College’s 125th anniversary, we’re sharing the favorite stories of our alumni, students, staff, and faculty during their time at Etown. Whether it’s a funny anecdote from your dorm days, a moment of mentorship from a class or professor, or a standout experience from a campus event, these stories submitted by members of the Blue Jay community not only commemorate the rich history of our institution but also serve as a reminder of the lasting impact that Elizabethtown College has had on the lives of so many individuals.

Your Stories: Stephen Haberman ’08 – History

As a Theater minor, I would take part in the yearly One Act student-directed plays. During my senior year, I performed a play called “Post Its,” in which a relationship was told through the post-it notes the couple left one another. The kicker was that I had already gotten engaged to my then-fiancee, now my wife of 15 years, and she had a habit of keeping all of the post-its notes I wrote her. She was unaware of the theme of the play until she saw the live performance on opening night. It was such a powerful moment because so many of our Etown friends and family were present and well aware of our relationship and knew that I wanted the performance to be a surprise.

There was not a dry eye in the house, and it was my favorite moment performing on stage.
