Elizabethtown College carried on its tradition of spreading cheer and giving back to the community through the annual Angel Tree project, sponsoring more than 400 gifts to be distributed among the community. The Angel Tree is a gift-giving event sponsored by the College’s Center for Community and Civic Engagement (CCCE) and Student Assembly that provides holiday gifts to families in need.
Donations are being distributed to community partners from Dec. 9 through 12.
“Angel Tree is a meaningful program that provides an opportunity to help those who are in need this holiday season,” Elizabethtown College Director of the CCCE Javita Thompson said. “It is such a meaningful experience to all who participate.”
Gifts were donated to more than 200 children and five adults, spread among several area nonprofit organizations. The CCCE partnered with Salvation Army branches in Lancaster and York, Elizabethtown Community Housing and Outreach Services (ECHOS), Catholic Charities Immigration & Refugee Services of Harrisburg, Clare House, and Milagro House to identify individuals in need.
Students tabled in the Baugher Student Center (BSC) in November to collect gift donations. More than 225 campus community members participated in Angel Tree this year, selecting a wish list tag to make holiday dreams come true for those in need. Student Assembly and the CCCE wrapped the gifts together in the Jay Lounge on Dec. 5.
“The Angel Tree is an important opportunity for the campus community to participate in community service this holiday season,” CCCE student coordinator Kenzie Laity ’27 said. “It’s been our most successful Angel Tree yet, and it couldn’t have happened without the help of our fellow Blue Jays.”
