An Elizabethtown College education is for people who feel the pull to contribute to the world. With a network of 24,425 living alumni, our graduates leave Etown to become the influential advocates and changemakers the world needs more of.
Meet Beth Bowers ’79, a Business Administration alumna and retired SVP Commerical Closing Services Manager of over 43 years at Fulton Bank. Bowers was the first donor to capitalize on Etown’s inaugural Million Dollar Match campaign, the most significant fundraising match in the College’s history.
The campaign offers the opportunity for 20 first-time endowed scholarship donors to build a lasting legacy and open doors to higher education for future generations of Etown students. The Beth Bowers ’79 Scholarship will support students who are majoring in Exercise Science.
“Obviously, there are various ways to give back to the College, but the scholarship really allowed me to go beyond just supporting the Annual Fund and other giving opportunities,” Bowers said. “It feels like a more personal connection and saying, ‘Hey, I’m making a difference for these particular students.’”
What defined your Etown experience?
All the relationships I formed at Etown, including teammates, classmates, coaches, and staff, plus campus life in general, provided me with so many great memories.
How has your Etown degree benefitted you and your career success?
My Etown business degree proved valuable in preparing me for various positions early in my career. Learning to balance studies and fun at Etown provided the basis for how I chose to manage staff during my career and assist them in their goals. Participating in sports and having the ability to work with others benefited me in the workplace. Helping staff work together to find the best in each other instilled confidence in all staff members to achieve results.
How have you made a difference in the lives of others through your career and/or personal life?
My desire to treat everyone with respect and to be supportive is how I tried to make a difference in the lives of family, friends, and staff throughout my career.
What is your passion? Where do you place your energy besides your career?
My passion is making the most of retirement by surrounding myself with family and friends, sharing laughter, and creating unforgettable moments.
