Elizabethtown College celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month, which is recognized nationally from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, with a series of on-campus events. The Office of Civil Rights, Opportunity, and Access (formerly the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Belonging) is collaborating with other campus partners and student groups to organize a variety of programs celebrating and supporting Hispanic success and culture.

The High Library and the Office of Civil Rights, Opportunity, and Access host a monthly discussion regarding literature, art, or music once a month, facilitated by Mosaic Scholars, to further explore subjects relating to diversity, equity, accessibility, and justice. La Mesa: Unpacking Afro-Latino Identities | Tuesday, Sept 24 at noon | McCormick Classroom, High Library
“La Sobremesa” means the table talk following the sharing of a meal between family and friends. Join Staff Counselor, Kayshen Morel for a lunch program where participants can bring their food and engage in a dialogue exploring the relationship between race and ethnicity within a Latino context. The discussion will also explore the origins of the terms, “Hispanic” and “Latino” as well as unpack the term “Afro-Latino” as it relates to blackness, white supremacy, and the Latino diaspora.
