Wall Street Journal, Princeton Review, and Washington Monthly place Etown in annual ranking lists

Recently, Elizabethtown College has been ranked among the nation’s best higher education institutions, receiving recognition from notable publications such as the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), Princeton Review, and Washington Monthly.

“We are honored that Elizabethtown College was recognized among the best institutions in the country by so many prestigious publications,” Elizabethtown College President Betty Rider said. “Our inclusion on these lists showcases the remarkable value of an Etown education which allows our students to not just gain a degree, but also learn the lifelong foundational skills that employers value such as the ability to think critically, analyze deeply, and communicate effectively.”

Wall Street Journal | 2025 Best Colleges in the U.S. (#211)

The WSJ/College Pulse 2025 Best Colleges in the U.S. list placed Etown #211 out of the top 500 higher education institutions in the country, including a #21 ranking among all schools in Pennsylvania. Over 1,500 U.S. colleges met the WSJ’s eligibility criteria.

The Best Colleges in the U.S. ranks undergraduate institutions based on the value they offer their students, which is assessed based on a school’s learning environment, affordability, degree completion rates, post-graduate earnings, and diversity. The results are determined using official data from the U.S. Department of Education and the Census Bureau, along with a nationwide survey of undergraduate students and recent alumni who graduated within the past five years.

Survey results ranked Etown the highest in quality of learning facilities, character development, and learning opportunities.

Princeton Review | 2025 Best Colleges: Mid-Atlantic Region

For the fourth consecutive year, Elizabethtown College is one of the 97 best higher education institutions in the Mid-Atlantic region according to The Princeton Review after being named to the education services company’s Best in the Mid-Atlantic section of its 2025 Best Colleges: Region by Region listing.

The website feature salutes a total of 631 colleges in seven zones – Northeast, South, Southwest, Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, West, and International (outside of the United States) – that The Princeton Review considers academically outstanding and well worth consideration in prospective students’ college search. The institutions in each zone are listed in alphabetical order by school name, and not ranked. An institution’s inclusion on the list is derived from multiple categories that are determined using data from student surveys of their college experience.

Washington Monthly | 2024 Best Bang for the Buck Rankings: Northeast: #255 | 2024 Master’s University Rankings: #159

Washington Monthly recognized Etown on both its 2024 Best Bang for the Buck Rankings: Northeast list (#255) and the 2024 Master’s University Rankings list (#159). The publication’s annual college guide and rankings evaluate national universities, liberal arts colleges, baccalaureate colleges, and master’s universities based on their contribution to the public good in three categories: social mobility, research, and providing opportunities for public service.
