Elizabethtown College Assistant Professor of English Tara Moore recently had her work published in a collection of essays titled, “Global Identities in Transit: The Ethics and Politics of Representation in World Literatures and Cultures.”

Moore’s essay, “Refugees in YA” discusses the topic of how refugees are represented in Young Adult (YA) and Children’s literature. In preparing to write her essay, Moore researched novels focused primarily on the experiences of North American, African, European, and Australian refugees.

“I used it as an opportunity to learn about how YA and children’s authors represented refugees, Moore said. “I noticed a real change in the way these novels depict the child refugees compared to similar books from the twentieth century.”

The collection is published by Rowman & Littlefield Publishing Group, and delves into the many aspects of identity, culture, and historical context in relationship to social injustices and implications that follow a globalized world.
