Elizabethtown College alumnus Kory Hilpmann ‘17 has been nominated in the Best Music/Film Score category for his animated short film, “Beanstalk” at the upcoming International New York Film Festival (INYFF) 2021.
Hilpmann, who earned his bachelor’s degree in Music with a minor in Communications, currently works as a film composer in Wernersville, Pa. He collaborated with animator and co-director Tom Cassese to create “Beanstalk” after writing a piece of orchestral music inspired by the classic story of, “Jack and the Beanstalk.” Hilpmann also created the sound design and foley for the short film.
“I’m so excited to see ‘Beanstalk’ do well in film festivals and receive my first nomination for best score,” said Hilpmann. “It was just a fun passion project to work on and explore sound design for the first time as well!”
The short film has enjoyed resounding success, having been accepted into seven film festivals and winning two awards.
“I want to thank Etown professor Dr. Jim Haines for being my composition instructor during my last few semesters and seeing the music for ‘Beanstalk’ come to life from the bean sprouts and beyond,” said Hilpmann.
Hilpmann’s latest award nomination for the INYFF’s Best Music/Film Score category will be announced on Sunday, June 27 at 9 p.m. This year’s INYFF will take place virtually and runs from June 18-27.
